The Dru team is an energetic and fresh-thinking group of inspired individuals who aim to inspire a naturally healthier way of living for everybody, from young to old, from all walks of life. Since our birth as a not-for-profit organisation 30 years ago, when a small group of idealistic university students sought to change the world, we have grown internationally, and now run organic food and natural remedy shops and organise yoga courses and retreats across the globe – from Canada to Australia. Our aim has always been to promote a positive, healthier and more peaceful existence for adults and children alike, giving back to the community by channelling resources into good causes. The major passion we share is our love for yoga and meditation. It is through these media that we initially wanted to inspire the world and the community around us to find a healthier, happier, more empowered way of living. We are founded upon the ideal of making a positive contribution to the world in which we live so we operate as a not-for-profit. With yoga and meditation at our core, we also care deeply about nutrition, therapeutic remedies and relieving the stresses of everyday living. Knoff Yoga is grounded in tradition and incorporates western scientific principles. You learn how to teach from a solid base of knowledge, imparting confidence – all the work has been done, you simply follow the systems and guide your students. You will study under the guidance of a Master Teacher with over 45 years experience. All classes are dedicated to Teacher Training – not public classes. Courses are designed so you are certificated and may teach straight away using the comprehensive course content. Flexible learning with levels, plus options to split courses to fit into your schedule. Courses are based on modern learning methodology. Each level prepares you for the next with logical progression. Principle-based so that you are not rote learning or following a script. Located in central Canberra, Yoga Mandir was established by Alan Goode in January 2005. To reflect the growth and development of programs, Yoga Mandir became an Institute in 2011 with the blessing of BKS Iyengar.
The Institute has established learning pathways for students of Yoga who have different levels of experience. There are programs for beginners, practitioners, trainee teachers, professional development and teacher trainers. The ongoing review and development of Institute programs is supported through teacher access to a well established resource library and ongoing research work. The Institute also contributes significantly to the teacher assessment and strategic planning activities of the BKS Iyengar Yoga Association of Australia.
Based in Braddon, the Institute has two fully equipped teaching studios of different sizes and it offers a seven day a week timetable, which operates most weeks of the year. The teacher programs of the Institute have provision for both internal and external students.
As an Iyengar Yoga Institute Yoga Mandir aims to provide the teachings of BKS Iyengar through its programs offered to a national audience. These include:
The Institute has the icon of the Ashok chakra to represent its work. This symbol dates back to Buddhism and was used by Gandhi in his quest for freedom for India. For the Institute this icon represents the wheel of life: the hub at the centre stands for practice; the 24 spokes depict time. We learn from practice to understand ourselves ‘at a point in time’ and to let go of definitions of ourselves based on past memories or thoughts of the future.

Yogasana Fitness offers classes designed to achieve the benefits of yoga through the physical practice of asana (yoga poses). The fitness benefits you receive from these classes target strength, flexibility and stamina. It is through the practice of yogasana that one will begin to discover the more subtle and esoteric benefits of yoga such as contentment, wellness, clarity of mind and being present.
All classes are taught by Jen Brown who has faithfully maintained a steady yoga practice since 1995. Her approach emphasises the importance of modifying the pose to suit the person, not vice versa. This means that props are often used to ensure that each student is choosing the appropriate variation for their body and its abilities.
